How about some hydration, from the ground [substance] up!
If you were asked to describe how to care for your teeth, could you? I’m sure you could!
So... what about your connective tissues? Your fascia, ligaments, tendons, and ground substance, too? Could you visualize them and explain how we can keep these tissues and their elements strong and healthy? We may not spend much time thinking about and caring for those dense, hidden tissues of our bodies, yet they are responsible for many of our physical restraints (and complaints)!
Keeping our connective tissues hydrated, lubricated, and durable is one of the most important things we can do to maintain our mobility and flexibility. Over time, these tissues begin to dry out, which means they are less able to function as they are meant to function. Yin Yoga physically stimulates the production of the ground substance that lies within and around our connective tissues. Ground substance lubricates them, so they don't seize or freeze and limit our range of motion. And at the same time, this hydration delivers a shock-absorbing cushion to help protect us from injury. Well-hydrated tissues are well-protected tissues!
