Taoism, organs as functions, Yin Yoga training with Sagel

I find the Taoist assertion that our Organs are more than just physical tissues so very heartening and empowering. From the Taoist perspective, there is a heart tissue, the muscle that pumps roughly two thousand gallons of blood every day to keep us alive, but also the heart *function,* with emotional and energetic responsibilities and activities taking place within each cell. This service includes nurturing delight, warm friendliness, liveliness, and loving connection with others. We can exercise the heart muscle in service of the health of our physical body, but a holistic practice doesn’t stop with that limited scope.

Organs as Functions

What good is a healthy body if we don’t use it to share the energy of kindness, of mutual support and aid, connect with appreciation and joy to our deepest intentions to help ourselves and those around us to learn, to share our talents with the world, and be the best version of ourselves each day?  We probably all can bring to mind human beings throughout history who have used their physical body to prioritize greed, harm, and destruction. And, too, so many examples of people whose tremendous generosity and compassionate capability left each place and each person they encountered better for having been there. What an expansive difference between the heart muscle…and the functions of the heart!
