My Pathway to the Practice

Years ago, the universe did for me what I hadn’t been doing for myself—it encouraged me to live more balanced days with a more balanced spirit. After completing two consecutive 200-hour Vinyasa yoga teacher trainings, I was excited to share yoga with as many people as I could. I jumped at every opportunity to teach—whether in studios, private sessions, hotels, conference rooms, gyms, universities, or even on the beach. From sunup to sundown, often seven days a week, I kept up this frantic pace for several years—without realizing that I was missing the very balance that yoga had the potential to provide.

Then, one day, the universe responded. I arrived at a hotel in Kennebunkport to teach a class, and in my usual rush, I reached down to grab my bag of props—WHAM! I hit my head on the massive antique wooden reception counter and nearly passed out. The next day, after a visit to my doctor, I learned that my chaotic schedule had led me straight into a concussion.

Injuries, especially concussions, have a way of forcing us to slow down. My body was physically exhausted and off balance. My mind followed suit—I couldn’t even tell left from right at times and struggled to speak clearly.

It was a difficult time both personally and professionally. But as much as I resisted it at first, I eventually realized that the concussion wasn’t the lesson I had expected, but exactly what I needed: permission to slow down and simply be. In our fast-paced, achievement-driven world, so many of us long for this—an invitation to step away from constant doing and reconnect with just being. I had been skimming the surface of life for so long, rushing from one thing to the next, that I wasn’t truly living in the present moment.

This experience, though painful and frustrating, was the turning point that led me to discover Yin Yoga, Mindfulness Meditation, and Yoga Nidra. What began as a need for rest became my passion, my love, and my life’s service. The shift from Yang to Yin, from constant activity to stillness, became the foundation of my practice, and it transformed everything.

These practices have been a blessing in my life, helping me maintain balance, clarity, and peace. My yoga mat is now a sacred space I can always rely on, whether I’m stealing five minutes in the middle of a hectic day or spending a couple of hours in quiet serenity. Through Yin Yoga, Meditation, and Yoga Nidra, I’ve learned how to replenish my body and mind, allowing me to show up as the best version of myself—more present, more grounded, and with a freer, happier heart.

As you explore these practices, it’s my deepest hope that you too feel supported, inspired, and empowered to discover the transformative power they hold for your body, mind, and spirit. I believe that as we nurture ourselves, we naturally uplift those around us, creating ripples of goodness and healing that extend outward into the world.

I look forward to meeting you on the mat! It is always a joy and honor to be your guide on this beautiful journey.

In loving blessings,
Sagel
